"I love Josh's dance events. There's something unique I really look forward to. He has good rhythmic music that makes me want to dance. But it's music that doesn't at all tell my body how to move, rather it invites out of me the dance that's already there inside. So it lets each person in the room go on a very individual journey. I wouldn't miss a single evening." Islam.
"I laughed out loud. I hadn't felt free like this in so long. SO long." Sabah (full testimonial and blog post - https://sabahismail.substack.com/p/the-ecstatic-dance-of-life )
"I want you to know how transformative Saturday night was for me.
I grieved for all that I have lost recently. I grieved because all my life I’ve been looking for a space where it was safe to cry and express sadness and grief for as long as you need. I grieved because I always wanted a parent who would hold me while I cried, tell me I’m safe, that they would take care of me
Sat night i started crying almost immediately I started moving. I was ashamed of my tears and I tried to hide them. Last night held in the dance of caring, loving people I realised at last I was safe and held. That no one would judge me for crying for 2 hours. That I didn’t need to worry about keeping myself together for the people around me. I was hurting no one. I realised that I was the only person who could give myself permission to cry.
I wrapped my arms around myself and as people danced around me I cried sobs that made my stomach hurt. I told myself I am not less of a person for crying. That my tears and grief do not make me less of a person. That I do not need to be strong and fight all the time to be lovable. I can do this for myself. I can be my own parent. I said to myself I love you and I will hold you. I told myself, I believe in you.
I told myself I don’t need to look for someone, I am that someone. And I knew I no longer needed to look for a space where it is safe to grieve because I had found it.
I felt seen, held, and accepted.
